Obesogens Make Us Fat

What can you do?

  1. Choose Organic Produce. Pesticides and fungicides mimic the hormone, estrogen. They also impair thyroid function and increase fat cell growth, contributing to weight gain. Eat only organic foods that have not been treated with chemicals. Of utmost importance are the ones which contribute to 90% of our pesticide exposure including: peaches, apples, corn, wheat, soy, sweet bell peppers, tomatoes, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, kale, chick peas, carrots, and pears.
  2. Ditch the soy found in most fast foods and salad dressings. Soy contains daidzen and genistein – estrogen-like compounds that can increase fat stores and body weight.
  3. Go Organic, Grass-Fed & Pasture Raised. But here’s another reason to choose grass-fed and pasture-raised: Grain and soy fed animals contain a powerful cocktail of obesogens from growth hormones to PCBs and other estrogen mimics, known to alter human hormones and promote the storage of fat. Additionally, cow are sometimes fed trash including candy in plastic wrappers!
  4. Avoid Farm-Raised Fish. In addition to being fed soy and corn, farm-raised fish are fed chemical compounds that act as hormone mimics. Always choose wild, sustainable seafood.
  5. Ban the Cans. Can liners contain bisphenol-a (BPA)  one of the most potent obesogens known.
  6. Avoid Plastics. Plastics contain a variety of chemicals that impair hormone function. Avoid plastic food storage containers, and plastic wrap. Make sure you never microwave in plastic. Avoid purchasing hot chicken wrapped in a plastic bag. Use a Stainless Steel water container instead of a plastic water bottle.
  7. Say Goodbye to Fragrance: Laundry detergents, dryer sheets, cleaning products, perfumes, and other products containing “fragrance” act as potent endocrine disruptors. Choose natural, sustainable options instead and boycott artificially fragranced products for your home and personal care needs. Your brain & body will thank you!

In the book: “The Hundred Year Lie”, author Randall Fitzgerald states that in a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control involving 2,400 adults and children, more than two hundred synthetic chemical toxins were found in the subjects’ bodies, with a hundred more chemicals suspected to be present.

Footnotes
“Glyphosate has received increasing attention from the scientific community and from national and international regulatory agencies. Based on research on the chronic side effects of glyphosate, in 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization (WHO) reclassified glyphosate as probably carcinogenic to humans.”

“The number of publications demonstrating the chronic toxicity of glyphosate in animals and humans has increased considerably. This has led to increased concern about the potential harmful side effects that chronic exposure to glyphosate could have on animal and human health.”
